DEAN COURT HOTEL Personally Recommended by Pat Richardson:

Whenever I’m on my travels, the first thing I do when I get out of bed in the morning is open the curtains and look out of the window - to soak up what I call the there-ness of being where I am. And nowhere says to me, ‘You are in York!’ as clearly, or as comfortingly, as the view from the room I slept in on my first stay at the Dean Court Hotel.

It’s breathtaking – you face the glorious Great West Window of this historic city’s iconic Minster. It’s right in front of you, between the landmark twin towers, and it doesn’t just tell you that you are in York, it also tells you how perfectly placed this building was as lodging for the Clergy. As locations go, it’s Heaven sent!

Dating from 1338, the window is known as The Heart of Yorkshire – the heart shape in the tracery near the top tells you why. I also like to think that this hotel places you at the very heart of York, for Petergate - one of the maze of centuries-old, narrow streets that thread through its centre - is just a few steps from the Dean Court’s front door. And that puts most of the city sights and treasure-chest shops mere moments away.

Every bit as enticing as the award-winning D.C.H Restaurant’s menus is the amazing range of packaged treats this hotel has to offer. From gourmet getaways to beauty breaks, racing days to theatre nights or sightseeing specials with a free foot therapy pack included, if you’ve something special to celebrate, it’s a great place to be.

And you - and the place - are both in good hands, for what General Manager David Brooks doesn’t know about running a successful hotel probably hasn’t been written!

York is a richly rewarding city to spend time in, and when I do I get a real thrill from staying somewhere as central as this. Being able to hop in and out during a day, being no distance from the places I most like to visit in York, and being able to still see so much of the city from my ‘base’ when I’m not out and about, gives me a real sense of belonging. I feel right at home in the Dean Court – and I’m sure you will, too.
