MACDONALD FRIMLEY HALL HOTEL & SPA Personally Recommended by Pat Richardson:
My first thought, on seeing Frimley Hall, was what a handsome house it is. And as befits a house, it is in a residential area – which means the surroundings are peaceful and relaxing. I liked that very much – and I admired the well-tended gardens that front this mellow old building.
I firmly believe that beautifully proportioned houses like this deserve respect, so when I stepped inside, it was good to see so many original features intact. Frimley’s famed Grade II-listed wallpaper certainly gives the entrance hall, with its stunning carved wood staircase, added impact. There’s period character, too, in most other public rooms - and in those bedrooms which are located in the original main house.
Mine wasn't, but no matter - because I knew that all the bedrooms here would deliver what I’ve found to be a ‘given’ in Macdonald hotels – comfort coupled with a restful ambience. And that means you won’t need to count sheep!
I like this company’s quality-food policy too – basically it’s: Only the best will do. Yes, you absolutely can taste the difference. And why would you want to settle for less?
Not surprisingly, then, I slept well here and I ate well. Better still, I was well and truly pampered in the spa. Almost all of my travels are business-based, but however busy I am, when I’m not the one making my bed, or my breakfast, washing the dishes or weeding the garden, I can usually find the time to fit in a treat such as a massage, a facial or a pedicure. Here, it was a massage - and it was one of the best I’ve had.
When it comes to putting together the ingredients for a good hotel experience, I found Frimley Hall got it right. And I think you will.
Wouldn’t you rather stay somewhere really special?
