THE FORBURY HOTEL, Reading, Berkshire

THE PAST:

This imposing listed building, in the heart of Reading, was built in 1911 as the Shire Hall for Berkshire County Council.

THE PRESENT:

The Forbury is now a stunningly stylish property - it was described by one newspaper as 'the UK's sexiest townhouse hotel' - and prides itself on attention to detail. Its decor features opulent fabrics and wallpaper, and still includes the original marbled corridors. The old central lift shaft, running the full height of the building, is now the setting for a stunning Italian chandelier, with 86,000 individual glass beads.

THE PLACE FOR YOU?

For anyone seeking an excitingly different hotel experience, which nevertheless meets the AA five-star guest expectations, this would be an excellent choice. As well as having Reading itself on the doorstep, you will be well-placed for racing at Newbury, Ascot and Windsor, for visiting Henley-on-Thames, Marlow or Bray, and for exploring the Chilterns.
The Forbury's Library and Eden Room are licensed for civil weddings.
