THE BONHAM, Edinburgh

THE PAST:

What is now The Bonham Hotel was originally three separate but adjoining, generously proportioned, Victorian townhouses, designed by John Lessels, and built between 1874 and 1882.

By 1939, the three houses were collectively known as 'The Private Clinic' which, until 1951, operated as a medical practice under one roof. One of The Bonham's bedrooms, with distinctive oak panelled walls and a copper bathtub, is believed to have been the main consulting room in the surgery.

In 1951 'The Private Clinic' was sold to the University of Edinburgh for £30,000 and became one of its Halls of Residence, accommodating students.

In 1997, the premises were bought by The Town House Company. Having taken infinite care over the complete and historically sympathetic renovation of the buildings, they opened it as a hotel - The Bonham - in 1998.

THE PRESENT:

For all its history, this luxury boutique hotel, with its dynamic spaces, bold colours, rich textures and contemporary art and photography, is an upbeat and up-to-the-minute address in Edinburgh’s West End. Its permanent art collection featuring, throughout the hotel, original abstracts, artwork and collages by some 30 up-and-coming local artists, effectively offers guests their own private viewing during their stay.

THE PLACE FOR YOU?

The Bonham gives a refreshingly edgy modernity to its spacious and stately setting, which will appeal to those who want a lively, stimulating place to stay that also delivers friendly, caring service and luxury accommodation.

THE PROPERTY IN DETAIL:

RELAXING
The lounge is a handsome room with wood panelling, a fine carved mantelpiece, and comfortable seating.

EATING & DRINKING
The Bonham’s chef, Michel Bouyer has been awarded two coveted AA rosettes for the restaurant, in recognition of his creative flair and the skilful way in which he has reinterpreted classic French cooking using Scotland's abundant natural larder. The Market Menu, available for both lunch and dinner, changes daily.

The hotel also has an excellent, well-edited wine list to complement the menus.

On Thursday evenings, Restaurant at the Bonham offers a fixed-price, ‘Boozy Snoozy’ dinner at £79.95 for a table of four, including three courses (with three choices for each course) and two bottles of wine.

The Restaurant’s decor epitomises sophisticated urban styling, designed to be cool and minimal so diners can focus on the food, the company and the occasion.

SLEEPING
Each of the 48 boutique rooms and suites at The Bonham has been individually styled by Janey Armstrong, using dramatic and vibrant colours , in simple design and in generous proportions, to create modern rooms that are – in her own words - 'primarily overwhelmingly comfortable, with a feeling of luxury and calm.'

All Unique rooms are fun, colourful and relaxing, with en-suite bathrooms that have showers over the baths.
