LITTLE GOOD HARBOUR, Shermans, St Lucy

THE PAST:

The former fort which now forms the core of this hotel dates from the mid-17th Century, and was one of 21 built to protect the island’s coastline. The first British settlement in Barbados was established in 1627 in Holetown - then called Jamestown, after James I. Located 12km north of the town, and named in honour of his grandson Prince Rupert, Fort Rupert was operational by 1654.

THE PRESENT:

Almost 350 years later, that same coral-stone fort, restored and refurbished, houses The Fish Pot - a water’s-edge restaurant loved by locals and tourists in-the-know. It’s part of Little Good Harbour Hotel, which consists of 21 luxury suites – two also within the former fort, plus a cluster of charming guest cottages.

THE PLACE FOR YOU?

Located in the quiet fishing village of Shermans on the island’s north-west coast, this tranquil, characterful oasis conjures up images of ‘the old Barbados’. Come here if you want to combine self-catering* suite accommodation with the convenience of hotel services, including swimming pools, beach access, and this outstanding bar and restaurant – and be within easy reach of the west-coast attractions and actions, but away from the bustle. *The nearest shopping centre is just 3km away, in Speightstown.
